In the bustling city of New York, there was a young girl named Aisha. Her parents had reportedly died in an earthquake, or so her aunt and uncle had told her. However, Aisha never believed their story, finding it unconvincing. Despite her doubts, she kept them to herself. Aisha’s aunt, Mrs. Cooper, was a small woman with black eyes and hair that was almost starting to turn white. She was very demanding and made Aisha do all the housework, even though Aisha just turned five today. Yes, today was Aisha’s birthday. Aisha longed for some free time to play and have fun, but she was thankful to her aunt and uncle for taking good care of her all these years.
Aisha was a pretty girl with brown eyes and black hair. She was a kind-hearted girl who never refused to do any work and never argued with anyone.
But how could a five-year-old girl do everything alone and perfectly? Her aunt used to yell at her a lot.
As usual, Aunt Linda was shouting at her.
"Are you done, you little twit?" Aunt Linda barked at her in annoyance.
Aisha had been washing the dirty dishes and cleaning the kitchen, which was Aunt Linda's mess from the night before. Aunt Linda had been watching her favorite cooking channel and made a mess. Of course, she could not cook the food properly, but Aisha had to eat the burned food anyway.
"Why do you look so droopy? Didn't you sleep last night? I do not want my work to be messy like you are a piece of trash. I want my work to be perfect, especially today," said the crooked aunt. “Are there any guests coming?" Aisha asked, feeling happy and excited. She loved being around new people, even though she did not speak much to them.
“Yeah, wouldn’t you like to know……… mind your business, girl, and do the work properly? See, there’s a stain? Don’t you know how to clean? What have your parents taught you? Oh! Yeah, you didn’t even have any parents to teach you how to do anything, just like your mother. You are a burden to me. Your mother ran off with a guy; how could she even leave this white monster on my doorstep, and this girl doesn’t even know how to work properly?” This made Aisha feel a storm of tears coming; she couldn’t control it, especially when someone was insulting her parents. Aisha was very disappointed.
"Of course, Aunt Linda wouldn’t remember my birthday,” she thought while she was crying.
"If my parents were here, they would have celebrated my birthday,” Aisha thought while crying.
“Yeah, here comes a downpour. I’ll get a bucket for you. I don’t want my house to be flooded,” Aunt Linda said carelessly. But still, Aisha didn’t say a word. After making a big insult to that poor little girl, Aunt Linda makes a dirty expression at Aisha while going to her bedroom to sleep. That’s her daily morning routine: waking up, taking a bath, eating, insulting Aisha, making Aisha cry, making a mess, and going back to bed.
Now let me introduce you to Uncle Leonard. Aisha’s uncle had brown eyes with his curly short hair, and he was short and plump. Uncle Leonard was out for a few weeks, which was a relief for Aunt Linda because, as you see, Mr. Cooper loved Aisha; he loved Aisha more than anything. If Mrs. Cooper would shout at Aisha, he would always take Aisha’s side, but unfortunately, Uncle Leonard was out for work half the time. Uncle Leonard, or no Uncle Leonard Aisha was calm, sensitive, and lonely, but very smart. She was missing her parents a lot. No one was there to wish Aisha a happy birthday, not even his funny uncle.
Just then the telephone rang, and Aisha ran to pick it up; she didn’t want Aunt Linda to wake up. Aisha picked up the phone, and then someone said, “Happy birthday, my dear child." It was Uncle Leonard. Aisha was surprised.
"What, Uncle Leonard, is that you?”
“Yes, my girl, it’s me.” Uncle Leonard replied.
“Oh my god, uncle, I am so surprised. I can’t believe my ears. Oh, thank you very much, uncle. You are the first one to wish me, and I am so happy,” Aisha said happily. Just then, Aisha realized she wasn’t meant to say that.
"I am the first one to wish you didn’t your aunt wish you first, or she is again making you work all day; wait till I come back,” said Uncle Leonard angrily.
"No, no, no, no I said that mistakenly; I meant to say that you are the second one to wish me. I was so excited that I even forgot what to say anyway. Why wouldn’t Aunt wish me? She is so nice and sweet. She never tells me to do work. Why would you think such a thing? My aunt would never make me work. I am so lazy. I sleep all day, and then also, Aunt never complains.”
As usual, Aisha was telling a lie to his uncle.
“Are you sure, kiddo, she never makes you work?” Mr. Cooper said with a sigh even he knew she was lying to him.
“Yes, I am sure. Why wouldn’t I be sure she never makes me work?" Aisha assures his uncle.
"OK, then I have a surprise for you. I am going to tell you when I come back home."
“Oh, uncle, you always leave me confused. Please tell me this time, please,” Aisha said, being excited and curious.
“Wait till I come back. I’ll tell you then, my child. Now bye, see you soon, and one more thing: don’t tell a soul about it. Bye.”
“Ok fine I’ll wait till you come back. Bye, wait.”
"Aisha, I am in a hurry; please tell me quickly.”
“Be safe; bye again. See you with my surprise.”
“Oh, Aisha, what would I do without you? Bye, my child. Don’t make too many mistakes, or your aunt will scold you.”
Aisha just started thinking about what the surprise would be, and then her aunt started shouting because the AC was making the room too cold and she wanted Aisha to decrease the coldness even though the remote was just near her bed. Aisha was saying to her uncle that she is lazy when her aunt is super lazy.
